Ingredients
  

  • 5 ripe pears (Bosc or similar)
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons water (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Method
 

  1. Peel the pears, core them, and cut them into small cubes.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine all ingredients, including the pears, maple syrup, lemon juice, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and water if needed.
  3. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to medium-low and simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally until the pears are soft and the mixture thickens to a syrupy consistency.
  4. Allow the compote to cool before transferring to an airtight container.
  5. Serve warm or chilled as a topping for desserts, breakfast items, or enjoy alone!
