Ingredients
  

  • 4 pounds sweet potatoes (peeled and cut into 2-inch chunks)
  • 1 teaspoon butter, softened (for greasing the baking dish)
  • 4 tablespoons butter (salted), cut into small cubes (for the yams)
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped pecans
  • 2-3 cups miniature marshmallows

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with softened butter.
  2. Boil the sweet potatoes in a pot of water for about 8-10 minutes until fork-tender. Strain and set aside.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine cooked sweet potatoes, 2 tablespoons salted butter (melted), brown sugar, cinnamon, maple syrup, and salt. Mix until well incorporated.
  4. Spread the sweet potato mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  5. In another bowl, mix the remaining butter, chopped pecans, and a sprinkle of brown sugar; spread this mixture over the sweet potatoes.
  6. Top the entire dish with marshmallows generously.
  7. Bake uncovered for about 25-30 minutes, until marshmallows are golden and the yams are heated through.
  8. Let stand for a few minutes before serving. Serve warm and enjoy!
